Holy Name Chess Club

Our school chess club is open to students in grades 3 – 8. Many students join the club without any prior knowledge of the game. The children are coached by a skilled-parent volunteer.

The club serves two purposes:

*To offer a relaxed setting for players who enjoy chess as both a game and a social activity, and

*To encourage more competitive players to improve not only their game, but their ability to predict / anticipate what an opponent will do. They improve their strategy skills and this fosters critical thinking in other areas as well.

Our competitive players participate in the All Brooklyn Chess tournament in May.

The club meets each Friday afternoon after school, and we currently have 25 members.
